JOLIET, Ill. - Olivet Nazarene took over sole possession of first place and denied University of St. Francis a shot at a share of the league leadership Friday afternoon as the Tigers blanked the Saints, 1-0, in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer match at the Galowich YMCA.

The Tigers (9-4, 4-1) scored the only goal of the first half in the 37th minute and then doused any hope for a USF comeback by tacking on goals in the 53rd and 82nd minutes of the game. ONU dominated play through most of the game as the Tigers finished with 12 shots on goal compared to USF's 2.

USF got both of its shots on goal off the foot of freshman defender Michael Kowal (Neuqua Valley H.S./Plainfield, IL) and both were excellent scoring opportunities.

USF sophomore goalkeeper Juan Santoliva (Bradley-Bourbonnais H.S./Bourbonnais, IL) played just the second half and had his streak of shutout minutes in goal snapped seven minutes into the half. His streak ended at just over 400 minutes of play.

The three goals by Olivet Nazarene marked the first time an opponent has scored more than one goal against USF since Clarke (IA) defeated the Saints, 3-2, on Sept. 21. USF had limited two of its last four opponents to one goal and had shut out the other two.

The Saints play next at Trinity Christian on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 2:30 p.m.
