JOLIET, Ill. - The young University of St. Francis women's soccer team played well defensively but came up on the short end of a 1-0 score in a season-opening match with NCAA Division II Concordia University-St. Paul (MN) on Thursday afternoon at the Galowich YMCA soccer fields.

Concordia's Katie Johnson scored the contest's only goal nine-and-one-half minutes into the second half.

USF senior goalkeeper Ashley Kekelik (T.F. South H.S./Lansing, IL) turned away 8 shots and faced a total of 25 shot attempts on the afternoon.

USF managed just four shots on the day, with three of them being on goal. The shots on goal were recorded by freshmen Debbie Rios (Joliet Township H.S./Joliet, IL), Amber Zukowski (Andrew H.S./Tinley Park, IL) and Delaney Goddard (Romeoville H.S./Romeoville, IL).

The Saints remain at home this weekend, playing host to Embry-Riddle (AZ) on Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Galowich YMCA.
