PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. - Freshman defender Shaun McMillin (Stagg H.S./Hickory Hills, IL) scored the game's only goal in the 71st minute of play to lead University of St. Francis to a 1-0 road Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's soccer victory at Trinity Christian on Wednesday afternoon.
McMillin's first collegiate goal came off an assist from sophomore midfielder Damien Silva (Plainfield North H.S./Plainfield, IL).
There was not a lot of offense in the game, as USF
(6-5-2, 3-1-1) managed just four shots on goal (in 12 total shot attempts) and
the Trolls (6-8, 2-4) were limited to just a pair (in only 7 total shots).
McMillin posted half of USF's four shots on goal, with the others being
credited to freshman defender Michael Kowal (Neuqua Valley H.S./Plainfield, IL)
and freshman forward Matt Nieciunski (Stagg H.S./Palos Hills, IL).
Sophomore goalkeeper Juan Santoliva (Bradley-Bourbonnais H.S./Bourbonnais, IL) turned away both Trinity Christian shots and went the distance to post his third shutout and move his record in goal to 4-1-1.
With the victory, the Saints now have accumulated 10
points (3 wins, 1 tie) in CCAC games and stand in a tie for third place with
Saint Xavier. Cardinal Stritch (WI) and Olivet Nazarene began the day in a tie
for first with 12 points each.
USF travels to Deerfield on Friday for a 4 p.m. game at CCAC foe Trinity International.
