BOURBONNAIS, Ill. - University of St. Francis could not keep its good fortune intact on Wednesday afternoon as the Saints' women's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision at regional powerhouse Olivet Nazarene.
The Saints did have two singles players push their matches to a third set. Sophomore Agnes Belza (Nazareth Academy/Chicago, IL) dropped her first set at No. 4 singles by a 6-4 score but then rallied to win the second set, 7-5. Belza lost the third-set tiebreaker by a 10-6 count. Junior Barb Koziol (Reavis H.S./Burbank, IL) took her opponent at No. 6 singles to a third set after she too rallied to win the second set. She lost 10-4 in the third-set tiebreaker.
Freshman Katie Kipping (Newman Central Catholic H.S./Dixon, IL) took ill during the No. 1 doubles match and USF was forced to default. With Kipping ill, the Saints also were forced to forfeit at No. 1 singles.
The loss dropped the Saint to 9-4 and completed the fall portion of the 2009-10 season. USF will play next during its spring break trip to Orlando, Fla., in early March.
