SAINT LEO, Fla. - NCAA Division II No. 14 Saint Leo University (FL) handed University of St. Francis its third straight loss on the Saints' fall break Florida trip with a three-game sweep on Thursday night.
Saint Leo (22-2) rolled to a 25-8 win in game one and then won the next two games by scores of 25-12 and 25-23. The Lions' front line held USF (23-14) to a negative hitting percentage in game one and took control of the match.
USF freshman outside hitter Jazzmyne Robbins (La Salle-Peru H.S./Peru, IL) had yet another impressive performance. Robbins, who leads both USF and the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference in kills per game, topped the Saints with 10 kills and a .261 hitting percentage. Sophomore outside hitter Kristee Conrad (Stagg H.S./Hickory Hills, IL) added 6 kills.
Senior libero Courtney Ambrosch (Joliet Township H.S./Joliet, IL) paced the Saints' defense with 8 digs.
USF finished the trip 0-3 but the losses came against top competition. In addition to No. 14 Saint Leo, USF dropped a pair of Tuesday matches to NCAA Division II No. 22 Eckerd (FL) and Webber International, a team that received votes in this week's NAIA national poll.
USF is now off until next Thursday evening when it plays its final regular-season home match against CCAC foe Calumet College of St. Joseph (IN) at 7 p.m. in the Recreation Center.
