JOLIET, Ill. - A shorthanded University of St. Francis women's soccer team dropped its fifth straight game as the Saints fell to Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference foe Robert Morris, 5-0, Saturday afternoon at the Galowich YMCA on Joliet's west side.
USF failed to score for the fifth straight game and had just two players available on the bench as injuries continued to haunt the Saints. In addition to the injuries, freshman midfielder Amber Zukowski (Andrew H.S./Tinley Park, IL) sat out the game after receiving a red card in the previous contest at Judson on Wednesday. Zukowski is USF's second-leading scorer on the season with 5 goals.
Robert Morris broke the 0-0 tie in the game's 24th minute on a nifty shot by Christine Ketteman who rebounded her own miss and flicked it past USF senior goalkeeper Ashley Kekelik (T.F. South H.S./Lansing, IL). The Eagles added a second goal in the 41st minute and took a 2-0 lead into halftime.
USF's hopes of getting back into the game were dashed in a 12-minute span less than halfway through the second period when the visiting Eagles scored three times to put the game out of reach.
The Saints managed to get just three shots in the game and only two on goal. Freshman midfielder Kim Askew (Herscher H.S./Reddick, IL) had two of the shots and one of the two that were on goal. Sophomore forward Erin Voss (Nazareth Academy/Elmhurst, IL) had the other shot on goal for USF.
The Saints close out their regular season on Tuesday afternoon with a 3 p.m. CCAC match against Cardinal Stritch (WI) at the Galowich YMCA. The Saints need a win or tie against Stritch to earn an eighth-place finish and the last spot in the CCAC post-season championship tournament.
