GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Four Saints scored in double figures but a second-half scoring barrage by Grace Bible College (Mich.) was too much as the Eagles overcame a 5-point halftime deficit and defeated University of St. Francis, 80-66, in the first round of the Davenport University Men's Basketball Panther Invitational Friday night.

The loss denied USF head coach Pat Sullivan a win in his first bid for his 500th career collegiate coaching victory.

The Saints led at halftime by a 40-35 score after shooting 57.1 percent from the floor in the first 20 minutes. USF's shooting went cold in the second half as the Saints made just 10-of-26 attempts while Grace Bible shot at a 58.6 percent clip (17-of-29).

For the game, USF finished with a 48.1 shooting percentage (26-of-54) and the Tigers hit at a 56.4 percentage (31-of-55).

Junior forward Greg Leavell (Schoolcraft College/Farmington Hills, MI) led USF with 12 points. Sophomore guard/forward Billy Hubly (Elk Grove H.S./Elk Grove, IL) was next with 11 points, including a trio of 3-point baskets. Sophomore starting point guard Derek Ciezczak (Stagg H.S./Hickory Hills, IL) and senior shooting guard Ryan Gunderson (Ottawa H.S./Ottawa, IL) each recorded 10 points for the Saints.

USF was outrebounded, 39-25, and had no player with more than the four rebounds pulled down by reserve freshman Michael Cole (Manley H.S./Chicago, IL).

The loss dropped the Saints to 1-1 on the season. USF will play Kuyper College, which is also from Grand Rapids, in Saturday's consolation game at noon (CST). Kuyper lost to host and crosstown rival Davenport University by a 111-33 score in Friday's first game.
