LOCKPORT -- Sophomore Courtney Madden (Plainfield Central H.S./Plainfield, IL) came "madden-ingly" close to qualifying for her first NAIA Championship field Saturday but finished behind just one runner too many at the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships at Dellwood Park.
Madden finished 11th overall (20:31.30) in the women's 5-kilometer race and helped lead University of St. Francis to a fifth-place finish among eight teams. The winning team (Saint Xavier) and the top five individuals not on the team champion qualify for the NAIA national meet. Madden was sixth among those top finishers not from Saint Xavier.
Senior Meghan Bannatz (Novi H.S./Novi, MI) missed her bid for a fourth straight trip to the national meet as she finished 17th overall with a mark of 20:45.34. Junior Lisa Stolzenbach (Beecher H.S./Beecher, IL) ran her best race of the season and finished 37th with a time of 22:12.10. Junior Brittany McAllister (Plainfield South H.S./Crest Hill, IL) was only nine seconds (22:21.78) behind Stolzenbach and finished 40th. Freshman Julia Borel-Donahue (Bellbrook H.S./Bellbrook, OH) also placed among the top 50, coming home in 46th place with a time of 22:30.50.
