Senior wide receiver Ponce Palmer (McArthur H.S./Findlay, IL) was named the Mid-States Football Association/Midwest League Offensive Player of the Week after his two-touchdown performance in University of St. Francis' 30-29 loss at Quincy on Saturday.
Palmer's second scoring catch of the game as time expired in the fourth and final quarter put USF in position to tie the game and force overtime. The Saints, though, missed the potential game-tying extra-point kick and lost the game by a single point.
Palmer's leaping grab over two defenders on that final play highlighted a day that saw him finish with 6 catches for 110 yards. It marked the third time this season that he had topped the 100-yard mark in receiving yards and the sixth time he has done it in his USF career.
Palmer is the seventh Player of the Week for the Saints this season and the sixth USF individual to be honored by the conference.
USF (3-7, 2-4) closes its season this Saturday with a 1 p.m. home game vs. William Penn (IA) at Memorial Stadium.
