
JOLIET, Ill. -The University of St. Francis women's basketball team gave new head coach Ryan Haun a victory in his collegiate coaching debut as the host Saints defeated the visiting Saints of Holy Cross College (IN) by a 96-55 score in USF's Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference opener at the Recreation Center.
USF (3-6, 1-0) won consecutive games for the first time this season and also evened its home record at 1-1 on the year. The hosts never trailed in the game, jumping out to a 10-point lead at 13-3 in the first five minutes and pushing the margin to 20 points at 50-30 at halftime. The final 41-point margin was USF's biggest lead of the game over Holy Cross (2-8, 0-3), who is in its first season of competition in women's basketball.
Three USF players scored in double figures, led by sophomore reserve center Jen Andes (Hall H.S./Princeton, IL) who collected a career-high 20 points. Andes made 8-of-11 shots from the floor and all four of her free throw tries. She also led USF with 7 rebounds.
Junior reserve forward Tori Albrecht (Downers Grove North H.S./Downers Grove, IL) added 12 points and 4 rebounds in just 10 minutes of play and starting forward Kellie Fazio (Leyden H.S./Rosemont, IL) finished the evening with 11 points.
USF shot 49.3 percent from the field (37-of-75) and was even better from 3-point range, shooting at a 50.0 percent clip (10-of-20). The Saints also shot a season-best 80.0 percent from the free throw line (12-of-15).
All 15 players played for the Saints for the second straight game, and 13 of the 15 scored points in the win.
The Saints travel to Chicago's south side on Wednesday night for a nonconference matchup with NCAA Division I Chicago State. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.
