BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The University of St. Francis women's tennis team defeated NCAA Division III rival Illinois Wesleyan University 5-4 on the road Wednesday afternoon.

The Saints jumped out to a 3-0 lead after sweeping the doubles competition. Seniors Anne-Christine Tompkins (New Lenox, Ill./ Lincoln-Way Central) and Princess Clemente (Tinley Park, Ill./ Andrew) notched an 8-2 decision at No. 1, while sophomore Ewelina Szwed (Romeoville, Ill./ Romeoville) and freshman Haley Collins (Diamond, Ill./ Coal City) won 8-1 at No. 3.

In the most closely-contested doubles matchup, senior Leah Fuessel (Mokena, Ill./ Lincoln-Way) and sophomore Danielle Hoffman (Tinley Park, Ill./ Andrew) teamed up for an 8-4 decision at No. 2.

USF lost four of the six singles contests, but a 6-1, 6-1 win from Hoffman at No. 2 and a 6-2, 6-2 victory from Tompkins at No. 3 lifted the Saints their third win in four dual matches this fall.

USF travels to Clinton, Iowa, to participate in the Ashford University Invitational Saturday and Sunday.
