CLINTON, Iowa – Seniors Princess Clemente (Tinley Park, Ill./ Andrew) and Anne-Christine Tompkins (New Lenox, Ill./ Lincoln-Way Central) captured the "A" flight doubles title as the University of St. Francis women's tennis team participated in the Ashford University Invitational Saturday and Sunday. | Results
After earning a first-round bye, Clemente and Tompkins won their semifinal contest 8-5 before winning a 10-8 tiebreaker against Ashford's Ursula Alvarado and Ana Mayagoitia in the championship match.
In the "B" flight doubles bracket, the USF tandem of senior Devan Trueba (Chicago, Ill./ Marist) and sophomore Ewelina Szwed (Romeoville, Ill./ Romeoville) won two matches to advance to the finals, where they dropped an 8-6 decision.
In singles play, Trueba and sophomore Ashley Golda (Manhattan, Ill./ Lincoln-Way Central) reached the finals of the "C" and "D" flights, respectively, while Tompkins won the consolation title in the "B" flight.
On the weekend, USF players combined to go 11-8 in singles and 5-5 in doubles.
USF concludes its fall campaign with a dual match at Benedictine (Ill.) University Wednesday at 3 p.m.
