
ALLENDALE, Mich. --- Freshman distance runner Sean Smith (Winnebago H.S./Winnebago, IL) headlined a trio of University of St. Francis top 10 performers at the Grand Valley State University (MI)/Bob Eubanks Open Friday night and in the process qualified for the NAIA Indoor National Championships.
Smith registered USF's top showing at the meet recording a time of 4:20.80 in the mile run to place third overall out of 55 participants. The qualifying time for indoor nationals was 4:21.26.
Sophomore Wayland Froelich (Amboy H.S./Amboy, IL) also placed among the top finishers for the second week in a row, this time in the triple jump where his 13.21 meter leap placed fifth.
Senior Adam Yost (Sparta H.S./Sparta, MI) also collected a seventh-place finish in the 800-meter run with his time of 1:56.97.
USF next competes in the Illinois Wesleyan University Titan Open on Saturday, Jan. 30.
The NAIA Indoor National Championships will be held March 4-6 in Johnson City, Tenn.
