SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Senior Jacqie Storm (Sandburg H.S./Orland Park, IL) and sophomore reserve Jen Andes (Hall H.S./Princeton, IL) scored 14 points each to lead University of St. Francis to its eighth straight victory with a 68-60 win over Indiana University South Bend in women's basketball action Saturday afternoon.
The Saints (13-10, 4-0), who have now won 10 of their last 11 games, rode a 10-0 run midway through the second half to take control of the key Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference contest. USF trailed 41-37 with 14 minutes left when it started its rally. The 10-0 spurt gave the Saints a 47-41 lead with 11:06 left and USF quickly expanded that margin to 11 points at 58-47 and still held an 11-point lead at 60-49 with 5:15 remaining.
But IUSB (15-6, 3-2) had one rally left in them and used an 8-0 run of its own to slice the lead to just three points at 60-57 with 3:40 left.
Storm then made a 3-pointer and senior guard Anna Sears (Providence Catholic H.S./Mokena, IL) followed with a jumper to give USF a more comfortable 8-point edge with 2:50 left in the game. The Titans never got closer than within seven points the rest of the way.
Sears finished the game with 13 points in support of the 28 combined points from leading scorers Storm and Andes. Senior forward Kellie Fazio (Leyden H.S./Rosemont, IL) led all rebounders in the game with 9 boards and senior point guard Katie Carls (St. Bede Academy/Spring Valley, IL) topped the Saints with 5 assists.
The conference-leading Saints return home on Tuesday for a CCAC matchup with Robert Morris. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at the USF Recreation Center.
