MARION, Ind. --- University of St. Francis freshman Sean Smith (Winnebago H.S./Winnebago, IL) cut nearly one second off his NAIA indoor nationals qualifying time in capturing the mile run, while two other Saints also claimed first-place finishes and another pair placed fourth at the Indiana Wesleyan University Invitational on Saturday.

Smith, who ran a 4:20.80 at the Grand Valley State University Bob Eubanks Open earlier this year, posted a time of 4:19.87 on Saturday to finish just ahead of Indiana Wesleyan's Ethan Naylor, who came in at 4:20.04.

USF's other top marks came from junior Adam Yost (Sparta H.S./Sparta, MI) in the 800 meter run (1:57.11) and sophomore Wayland Froelich (Amboy H.S./Amboy, IL) in the triple jump (45 feet, 11.25 inches).

Freshman Daniel Laskowski (Reavis H.S./Burbank, IL) earned one of the two fourth-place readings with his time of 2:49.29 in the 1,000 meter run. Sophomore Daniel Bruckner (Northern Illinois University/Plainfield, IL) claimed the other one with his 13-5.25 jump in the pole vault competition.

The Saints' next competition comes at the Central Michigan University Jack Skoog Open on Friday.
