JOLIET - University of St. Francis made sure Wednesday night that its retiring head coach - 34-year veteran Pat Sullivan - will get to work one more game on his home bench before his career ends. The Fighting Saints clinched fourth place and earned a first-round home game in next week's Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament with a 73-67 home win over Indiana University South Bend.

The Saints (8-19, 4-5) won their second straight game and earned a sweep of the regular season series with IUSB. The two teams will meet again next Tuesday at St. Francis in the CCAC tourney since IUSB is assured of a fifth-place finish in the league.

Sophomore guard Billy Hubly (Elk Grove H.S./Elk Grove, IL) matched his season high with 21 points and hit 5 treys on the game to lead the Saints in scoring. Hubly made three consecutive 3-pointers late in the first half to quickly bring the Saints back from a six-point deficit and put them ahead at 30-29. IUSB regained the lead before halftime and went to the locker room with a 33-30 edge.

The teams traded leads early in the second stanza before the Saints grabbed a 41-40 advantage with 13:11 left on a 3-pointer by sophomore Lukas Zebrauskas (Stagg H.S./Palos Heights, IL). USF built the margin to as much as five points before IUSB came back to grab a 59-58 edge with 3:25 left.

Freshman center Michael Cole (Manley H.S./Chicago, IL) made a pair of free throws at the 2:45 mark that gave the Saints a lead they would never relinquish. Cole made 5-of-6 free throws in the final 2:45, including a pair at the 14-second mark that extended USF's lead from 69-67 to 71-67 and made it a two-possession game.

Cole joined Hubly and two other Saints in double figures in scoring. Cole finished with 11, just one point shy of junior point guard Andrew Fair (Olive-Harvey College/Chicago, IL) who had 12. Zebrauskas finished the game with 10 points off the bench.

Senior Tristan Therkield (Richards H.S./Oak Lawn, IL) led all rebounders in the game with 9 boards. Fair led all players with 6 assists and Hubly led both teams with 3 steals.

Ben Werner led IUSB with a game-high 26 points, making 8-of-12 shots from the floor and 10-of-10 from the free throw line.

USF finishes the regular season with an 8 p.m. game vs. league-leading Robert Morris on Saturday night at the Gentile Center on the campus of Loyola University. The game is the back half of a women's and men's doubleheader featuring the Saints and the Eagles.
