
LOCKPORT --- University of St. Francis rolled to two more victories on an extended day of play Saturday, securing an 8-1 decision over Cornell College (IA) in a match that started at 2 p.m. before wrapping up a 7-2 win over North Central College just before midnight at Challenge Fitness.
The pair of victories puts the Saints at 5-1 on the season.
Juniors Jakub Szymanski (Bethany College, KS/Poznan, Poland) and Jacob Quigley (Saint Xavier University/Joliet, IL) and freshman Andres Stecher (Pestalozzi H.S./Buenos Aires, Argentina) all went undefeated on the day with Szymanski and Quigley both earning four wins and Stecher, three.
Quigley and Szymanski paired up for easy 8-0 and 8-1 victories at No. 2 doubles. Quigley also won 6-2, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-3 at No. 4 singles, while Szymanski fought off Cornell's Bronson Brassel (2-6, 6-0 (10-6)) and North Central's Sam Sweeney (5-7, 7-5, ret.) at No. 1.
Stecher won a pair of decisions at No. 6 singles (6-4, 6-1 and 6-3, 6-0), while also teaming up with junior Erick Dobrzynski (Moraine Valley Community College/Justice, IL) for an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles versus North Central.
Other three-match winners on the day were seniors Scott Surges (Providence Catholic H.S./Joliet, IL) and Luis Oliveira (Seward County C.C., KS/Saolourenco, Brazil). Both players went 3-1.
USF heads down to Florida on March 6 to take on Warner University (FL) in the first of five matches down in the Sunshine State.
