KISSIMMEE, Fla. - Junior right-handed pitcher Kim Malacina (Lockport H.S./Homer Glen, IL) fired her second complete game in as many starts as the University of St. Francis softball team defeated Greensboro (N.C.) College 8-2 and went on to split a pair of games for the second straight day on its season-opening Florida trip. USF fell, 3-0, to Marian University (Ind.) in its second game.

Malacina scattered 9 hits, struck out a pair and walked only a single batter in improving her record to 2-0.

The Saints (2-2) never trailed against Greensboro (5-6-1) and blew the game wide open with a 7-run run third inning. USF took advantage of two Greensboro errors in that frame and had run-scoring singles from junior second baseman Beth Boezeman (Lincoln-Way East H.S./Frankfort, IL) and senior center fielder Kendel Behrens (Morris H.S./Morris, IL) plus a sacrifice fly from senior left fielder Maggie O'Shea (Wheeler H.S./Valparaiso, IN) and a two-run double from sophomore third baseman Brittany Bochenek (Lockport H.S./Lockport, IL). O'Shea also drove home the Saints' first run of the game with an RBI single in the second inning.

Behrens finished the game 3-for-3 at the plate with a walk, an RBI and a run scored. Boezeman and Bochenek each added a pair of hits in the opener.

USF was held to just one infield hit - by junior shortstop Caitlin Dolan (Lincoln-Way East H.S./Frankfort, IL) - in a rapid second game that was played in just one hour and one minute. Sophomore right-handed pitcher Jackie Frey (Plainfield South H.S./Plainfield, IL) pitched all six innings for USF and allowed 3 earned runs on only 6 hits. She walked only one batter and struck out three.

USF continues play on Tuesday with games against Missouri Baptist and Catholic University of America (DC) at noon and 2 p.m. CST.
