
BABSON PARK, Fla. --- NAIA No. 16-ranked Webber International University (FL) snapped University of St. Francis' five-match winning streak and handed the Saints just their second loss of the season in an 8-1 contest Monday afternoon at the WIU Campus Tennis Courts.
USF's double teams challenged the hosts, but could come away with only one victory winning 8-6 in the No. 2 slot manned by juniors Jacob Quigley (Joliet Catholic Academy/Joliet, IL) and Jakub Szymanski (Bethany College, KS/Poznan, Poland).
The Saints' No. 1 doubles team of seniors Luis Oliveira (Seward County C.C., KS/Sao Lourenco, Brazil) and Scott Surges (Providence Catholic H.S./Joliet, IL) and the No. 3 team of junior Erick Dobrzynski (Moraine Valley C.C./Justice, IL) and freshman Andres Stecher (Pestalozzi H.S./Buenos Aires, Argentina) also gave the Warriors a run for their money before falling by identical 8-5 counts.
Szymanski was the only Saint to take his opponent to three sets in singles play before falling 6-1, 5-7, 1-0 (10-2) at the top spot.
USF (7-2) is off on Tuesday prior to taking on McKendree University Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.
