ORMOND BEACH, Fla. --- Tuesday turned out to be another wild day at the baseball diamond with both Jamestown College (ND) and University of St. Francis giving up early leads before settling for a split on the day.

Jamestown (7-3) trailed 3-0 after three innings in the opener only to score the final four runs of the contest to win 4-3. In the nightcap, the Saints trailed 5-0 at one point and 6-5 later before having all 12 batters reach base safely in an 11-run bottom of the fifth inning to gain a 16-6 victory.

In the opener, RBI singles by senior catcher Pat Grady (Carl Sandburg H.S./Orland Park, IL) in the first and third innings gave the Saints an initial 2-0 lead. USF (3-2) added one more run in the latter frame on a wild pitch.

Jamestown put six straight hits together in the bottom of the fourth inning to knot the score at 3-3 before getting a two-out RBI double from Jeremy Newman in the seventh inning to win the game.

Junior David Hexdall (Morris H.S./Morris, IL) (0-1) went the distance for the Saints and suffered the loss.

In Game 2, St. Francis authored no fewer than 16 hits with seven players posting two hits each.

USF chipped away at its five-run deficit starting in the third inning with three runs, two coming home on sophomore shortstop David Schwabe's (Driscoll Catholic H.S./Wood Dale, IL) single up the middle. Junior catcher Brent Walters (Lisle H.S./Lisle, IL) then tied the contest at five-all one inning later with his two-run double.

After Jamestown regained the lead in the top half of the fifth inning, the Saints opened the floodgates in the bottom of the frame producing 10 hits (all singles) and two walks to plate 11 runs and invoke the 10-run rule.

Schwabe, Grady and senior second baseman Steve Witczak (St. Rita H.S./Chicago, IL) all had big days at the plate with Schwabe going 5-for-8, Grady poking four hits in seven official plate appearances and Witczak totaling four hits in eight at bats. All three had a pair of hits in the second game as did Walters, senior centerfielder David Heasley (Crystal Lake Central H.S./Spring Grove, IL), senior leftfielder Tom Serruto (Glenbard West H.S./Glen Ellyn, IL) and freshman first baseman Joe Ruge (Riverside-Brookfield H.S./North Riverside, IL).

Sophomore Corey Schultz (Kankakee H.S./Kankakee, IL) (2-0) picked up his second straight win in relief working the final inning.

Next up for the Saints is a 9 a.m. doubleheader versus Marian University (IN) on Wednesday.
