CHICAGO --- Aided by the play of senior Leah Fuessel (Mokena, Ill./ Lincoln-Way East) and sophomore Danielle Hoffman (Tinley Park, Ill./ Andrew), the University of St. Francis women's tennis team snapped out of its two-match losing skid with a 5-1 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory Wednesday afternoon at the Grant Park Tennis Courts.
USF (10-9, 3-2 CCAC) took a 2-1 lead after doubles play starting with Fuessel and Hoffman's 8-3 win in the No. 2 slot and concluding with an 8-0 whitewash by sophomore Ewelina Szwed (Romeoville, Ill./ Romeoville) and senior Devan Trueba (Chicago, Ill./ Marist) at No. 3.
Fuessel added a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles, while Hoffman gained a 6-3 first-set win in the No. 2 position before her opponent retired. Sophomore Ashley Golda (Manhattan, Ill./ Lincoln-Way Central) closed out the match with the deciding fifth win, a 6-0, 6-0 decision at No. 6.
The Saints turn right around to face Calumet College of St. Joseph in a 3:30 p.m. match Thursday in Whiting, Ind.
