JOLIET, Ill. --- University of St. Francis will be riding a three-match winning streak when the Saints open play in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Tournament on Monday after closing out the regular season with an 8-1 league victory over Purdue University Calumet Saturday afternoon.
USF (12-9, 5-2 CCAC) will enter the postseason as the No. 3 seed and host Judson University in the seven-team field after sweeping all three doubles matches and winning five of six singles matches on Saturday. Five different Saints recorded a pair of wins on the day.
Included among the double winners were senior Devan Trueba (Chicago, Ill./ Marist) and sophomores Danielle Hoffman (Tinley Park, Ill./ Andrew), Ewelina Szwed (Romeoville, Ill./ Romeoville) and Ashley Golda (Manhattan, Ill./ Lincoln-Way Central). Hoffman and Szwed combined for an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles before claiming separate 6-3, 6-0 and 6-4, 6-1 victories at No. 2 and 4 singles, respectively. Golda and Trueba posted an 8-3 victory at No. 3 doubles with the former adding a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles and the latter registering a 6-3, 6-2 win in the No. 6 slot.
Senior Anne-Christine Tompkins (New Lenox, Ill./ Lincoln-Way Central) also recorded a pair of victories, first combining with senior Princess Clemente (Tinley Park, Ill./ Andrew) at No. 1 doubles for a 9-7 win before claiming a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles.
