
ORLANDO, Fla. --- University of St. Francis opened play Wednesday with a victory at No. 1 doubles, but after that it was all McKendree University as the NAIA No. 29-ranked Bearcats won for the eighth straight time and set the Saints back for the second consecutive match in an 8-1 decision.
Seniors Luis Oliveira (Seward County C.C., KS/Sao Lourenco, Brazil) and Scott Surges (Providence Catholic H.S./Joliet, IL) provided USF's lone victory on the day scoring an 8-3 win over the team of Paulo Goncalves and Evgeniy Nigmatyanou.
Juniors Jacob Quigley (Saint Xavier University/Joliet, IL) and Jakub Szymanski (Bethany College, KS/Poznan, Poland) also played tough at No. 2 doubles before succumbing, 8-6, to Daniel Gonzalez and Barnabas Toth.
McKendree (8-1) gained the advantage in doubles play with an 8-2 win in the third slot before claiming all six singles matches in the minimum two sets.
USF (7-3) wraps up its spring trip on Thursday facing Wesleyan University (CT) at 10 a.m.
