PLAINFIELD, Ill. --- The University of St. Francis women's tennis team advanced to the semifinal round of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament after notching its fourth win in a row with a 9-0 victory over Judson University in opening-round action of the seven-team tournament on Monday afternoon at the Five Star Tennis Center.
The win was the second by a 9-0 count against Judson this spring and the seventh time this season that the Saints blanked an opponent.
USF (13-9) dominated in doubles action with 8-0, 8-1 and 8-3 victories. In singles play, only one Saint yielded more than four games.
Sophomore Danielle Hoffman (Tinley Park, Ill./ Andrew) earned the most convincing victories with a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles and an 8-0 whitewash at No. 2 doubles with senior Leah Fuessel (Mokena, Ill./ Lincoln-Way East). Fuessel also won her singles match, a 6-1, 6-3 decision at No. 4.
Seniors Princess Clemente (Tinley Park, Ill./ Andrew) and Anne-Christine Tompkins (New Lenox, Ill./ Lincoln-Way Central) also picked up a pair of wins on the day as did sophomore Ewelina Szwed (Romeoville, Ill./ Romeoville). The latter teamed up with Haley Collins (Diamond, Ill./ Coal City) for an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles prior to notching a 6-3, 6-4 victory at No. 5 singles.
Junior Shannon Mudro (Morris, Ill./ Coal City) gained the other singles win, a 6-3, 6-1 triumph at No. 6.
The Saints face NAIA No. 23-ranked Olivet Nazarene University on Thursday in semifinal-round play of the tournament.
