Brent Walters' first collegiate home run sparked the Saints to an 8-7 come-from-behind victory on Saturday.

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. --- Rained out each of the previous two days, University of St. Francis made up for it on Saturday playing a pair of extra-inning affairs and coming up with a split against William Woods University (MO).

Three-run home runs by both junior catcher Brent Walters (Lisle H.S./Lisle, IL) and senior designated hitter Pat Grady (Carl Sandburg H.S./Orland Park, IL) enabled the Saints to rally for an 8-7, eight-inning victory in Game 2 after falling 3-2 in 10 innings in the opener.

Sophomore reliever Corey Schultz (Kankakee H.S./Kankakee, IL) also played a key role again, shutting down the Owls (1-1) over the final 2.1 innings to pick up his third victory on the trip against no defeats. In four appearances covering six innings, Schultz has struck out six batters, yielded just three hits and one walk and has not allowed a run.

Walters got the Saints back into the game with his first collegiate home run in the fourth inning. That cut USF's deficit down from 5-1 to 5-4.

After William Woods tacked on two more runs in the top half of the sixth inning, Grady delivered his second home run of the season to tie the game at 7-all. The Saints then loaded the bases in the eighth inning with sophomore shortstop David Schwabe (Driscoll Catholic H.S./Wood Dale, IL) scoring the winning run with one out when William Woods catcher Matt Denney failed to hold on to the ball for a force out at the plate.

Schwabe, Grady, senior centerfielder Tom Serruto (Glenbard West H.S./Glen Ellyn, IL), senior third baseman Andy Zurales (Lincoln-Way Central H.S./New Lenox, IL) and sophomore first baseman Shawn Hohenbery (Princeville H.S./Princeville, IL) all collected two hits for the winners.

Walters also drove in a run with a double in the opener as did freshman first baseman Joe Ruge (Riverside-Brookfield H.S./North Riverside, IL) on a sacrifice fly to put the Saints up 2-0, but William Woods rallied with single runs in its half of the second and fifth innings before winning the game on an error in the 10th inning.

Senior Joe Koehler (Michigan State University/Worth, IL), who went the distance on the mound allowing just two earned runs in 9.1 innings, suffered the loss.

Senior second baseman Steve Witzcak (St. Rita H.S./Chicago, IL) was the lone Saint to register a pair of hits in the opener.

USF (5-4) wraps up its trip on Sunday facing Ashford University (IA) at 9 a.m. before facing William Woods again at 11:30 a.m.
