DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. --- University of St. Francis opened its spring campaign by placing 17th out of 18 teams at the 21st Annual Embry-Riddle University (FL) Eagle Invitational over the weekend at the Pelican Bay Country Club.

The Saints sat in 14th place after the 36-hole first day shooting a 640 (319-321), but slipped three notches on Sunday after registering a 330 to finish with a 970 total.

Brevard Community College (FL), which won the invitational, nearly led from beginning to end starting one stroke behind Southeastern University (FL), 296-297, after the first round. Brevard followed with rounds of 301 and 293 to net an 891 total, seven strokes better than University of South Carolina Beaufort (898) and nine strokes ahead of Johnson & Wales University (FL) (900).

USF sophomore Grant Whybark (Morris H.S./Morris, IL) paced the Saints in each of the three rounds with his scores of 76-78-80 for a 234 three-round total. That placed him in a tie for 40th overall out of the 105 total finishers.

Freshman Martin Hetelle (Joliet Junior College/Seneca, IL) was USF's No. 2 man with rounds of 78-79-85 for a 242 total.

Sophomores Steve Wojcik (Andrew H.S./Tinley Park, IL) and Mike Mysker (Andrew H.S./Tinley Park, IL) rounded out USF's four-man scoring contingent with totals of 247 and 250, respectively.
