
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- University of St. Francis snapped a modest two-match losing streak by registering its fourth 9-0 victory of the season on Saturday with Marian University being the latest victim at the West Indy Racquet Club.
Marian (6-10) gave the Saints little trouble on the day with only two sets requiring more than nine games to be played.
USF (8-3) opened up with matching 8-1 victories at Nos. 1 and 2 doubles before posting an 8-5 win in the No. 3 slot.
Senior Scott Surges (Providence Catholic H.S./Joliet, IL) dominated at No. 2 singles as he did not lose a game winning 6-0, 6-0. Senior Luis Oliveira (Seward County C.C., KS/Sao Lourenco, Brazil) also claimed a 6-0 second-set win following a 6-4 first-set victory after he and Surges teamed up at No. 1 doubles.
Juniors Jakub Szymanski (Bethany College, KS/Poznan, Poland) and Erick Dobrzynski (Moraine Valley C.C./Justice, IL) also posted a pair of victories on the day with their latter wins being identical 6-1, 6-1 decisions at Nos. 1 and 6 singles, respectively.
Topping off the double-wins list for the day were junior Jacob Quigley (Saint Xavier University/Joliet, IL) and freshman Andres Stecher (Pestalozzi H.S./Buenos Aires, Argentina). Quigley teamed up with Szymanski on the doubles side and then authored a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles. Stecher, after the 8-5 win in doubles play, earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 5 singles.
The Saints take the rest of the week off before hosting Indiana Institute of Technology (9 a.m.) and Wheaton College (3 p.m.) on Saturday at the Lockport High School Tennis Courts.
