
MACOMB, Ill. -- University of St. Francis stands in eighth place --
behind six NCAA Division I programs and NAIA powerhouse St. Ambrose --
after Monday's first 36 holes of the 54-hole Beu/Mussato Invitational
golf tournament hosted by Western Illinois University.Sophomore Grant Whybark (Morris H.S./Morris, IL) paced the Saints with
rounds of 77 and 73 for a 36-hole total of 150, or 6-over par. Fellow
sophomore Steve Wojcik (Andrew H.S./Tinley Park, IL) is just 4 shots
behind Whybark at 154 after carding rounds of 76 and 78.
The
Saints' first-day scoring was completed by senior Steve Sourigno (Joliet
Catholic Academy/Joliet, IL) who stands at 156, junior Pat Fitzgerald
(Homewood-Flossmoor H.S./Flossmoor, IL) at 158 and freshman Martin
Hetelle (Seneca H.S./Seneca, IL) at 160.
The Saints' total of 616
through 36 holes is 53 strokes behind host Western Illinois but just a
half-dozen shots behind NAIA foe St. Ambrose.
The tournament
concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday.
