MACOMB, Ill. -- University of St. Francis slipped one spot in the third and final round and finished in ninth place at the 13-team Beu/Mussatto Invitational men's golf tournament hosted Monday and Tuesday by Western Illinois University.

The field was dominated by NCAA Division I schools and had just two NAIA entrants -- the Saints and USF region rival St. Ambrose (IA). SAU finished sixth in the field with a team score of 919 while the Saints came in at 946. The host Leathernecks won the tournament with a team score of 859.

After shooting team scores of 312 and 304 in Monday’s initial two rounds, USF fired a 330 on Tuesday with none of the five Saints breaking 80 on the final day. In contrast, seven of the 10 rounds shot by USF players on Monday were under 80.

Sophomore Grant Whybark (Morris H.S./Morris, IL) led the Saints over 54 holes with a total of 232, which was 16 over par. Whybark was one of three Saints to shoot an 82 in Tuesday’s final 18 holes. He tied for 24th overall in the field of 74 players.

Sophomore Steve Wojcik (Andrew H.S./Tinley Park, IL) also fired an 82 on Tuesday and finished the three rounds with a total of 236. Senior Steve Sourigno (Joliet Catholic Academy/Joliet, IL) was the third USF player with an 82 on Tuesday and he completed the tournament with a 54-hole total of 238.
