GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - University of St. Francis completed its weekend trip to Grand Rapids, Mich., with a 9-0 whitewashing of Davenport University Saturday morning in an NAIA men's tennis matchup.
The Saints won all three doubles matches and five of the six singles bouts very decisively. Only one singles match went to a third set.
Senior Scott Surges (Providence Catholic H.S./Joliet, IL) was the only Saint regular who did not play singles. He did team with partner (senior) Luis Oliveira (Sao Laurenco, Brazil) to win at No. 1 doubles by an 8-3 score.
Oliveira, junior Jakub Szymanski (Bethany College KS/Poznan, Poland), junior Jake Quigley (Joliet Catholic Academy/Joliet, IL), junior Erick Dobrzynski (Moraine Valley CC/Justice, IL) and freshman Andres Stecher (Buenos Aires, Argentina) all were winners in both doubles and singles. Stecher was the lone Saint pushed beyond two sets as he bounced back from a 1-6 loss in the first set to defeat his opponent 6-3 in the second set and 11-9 in a tiebreaker played as the third set.
Freshman Nikola Milenkovic (Belgrade, Serbia) played at No. 6 singles for USF and easily won his match by a 6-0, 6-2 score.
