
DEERFIELD, Ill. - Sophomore Jackie Frey (Plainfield South H.S/Plainfield IL) fired a 4-hit shutout in the first game and junior Kim Malacina (Lockport H.S./Homer Glen, IL) tossed a 5-hitter in the nightcap as University of St. Francis swept a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference softball doubleheader at Trinity International Tuesday afternoon. USF won the opener, 8-0, in five innings and took the nightcap by a 7-2 score.
Frey allowed two runners to reach base in the same inning on just one occasion, walked none and struck out six in improving her record to 5-6.
Senior centerfielder Kendel Behrens (Morris H.S./Morris, IL) went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead USF's 11-hit attack in the first game. She had two singles, a triple, two RBI and a pair of runs scored. Freshman designated player Jordan Halata (Lockport H.S./Lockport, IL) and senior first baseman Lynley Louzensky (Tinley Park H.S./Oak Forest, IL) each added a pair of hits, with Halata getting one RBI and Louzensky two.
The Saints broke open a close game with a 3-run sixth in the nightcap. USF led 3-2 after five innings but gave Malacina (6-6) all the insurance she needed with three runs on four hits in the sixth to push the margin to 6-2.
Senior rightfielder Kaylee Shell (Wilmington H.S./Wilmington, IL) paced the 11-hit USF attack with three hits. She added two stolen bases and scored a run. Junior catcher C.J.Rupsis (Bolingbrook H.S./Bolingbrook, IL) and sophomore third baseman Jenny Festin (Lockport H.S./Lockport, IL) added two hits apiece. Malacina struck out six batters and walked just one in her 7-inning complete game. Only one of the two runs charged against her was earned.
The Saints (14-16, 4-4) have won five straight and six of their last seven games. USF returns home on Thursday for a key CCAC doubleheader with Judson at 5 p.m. at the Inwood Softball Complex.
