JOLIET - Senior right-hander Joe Koehler (Mount Carmel H.S./Worth, IL) fired a complete-game six-hitter to lead University of St. Francis to a 2-1 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball win over Illinois Tech Friday afternoon at Silver Cross Field.

Koehler was touched for just one run in the sixth inning but worked his way out of trouble in that frame as the Scarlet Hawks had loaded the bases with nobody out. He also managed to stop an IIT (10-14, 8-8) threat in the top of the eighth with a double-play ground ball to end the inning.

Koehler (2-3) struck out six and walked only three.

The Saints (20-12, 11-5) got on the board first with an unearned run in the bottom of the third. Senior catcher Pat Grady (Sandburg H.S./Orland Park, IL) reached on a 2-out error which was followed by a double off the bat of senior center fielder David Heasley (Crystal Lake Central H.S./Spring Grove, IL).

USF pushed another unearned tally across the plate in the fifth when a Grady double was followed by a wild pitch and an error on Heasley's ground ball to short.

The Saints finished the game with 10 hits and got two-hit efforts from both senior right fielder Joe Prohaska (St. Laurence H.S./Chicago, IL) and junior first baseman Shawn Hohenbery (Princeville H.S./Princeville, IL).

USF travels to Chicago on Sunday for a noon doubleheader at Illinois Tech to complete the 3-game CCAC series.
