
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - University of St. Francis swept all three doubles matches and took the first four singles bouts in a 7-2 men's tennis victory at NCA Division III Illinois Wesleyan on Wednesday afternoon.
The number one doubles team of seniors Scott Surges (Providence Catholic H.S./Joliet, IL) and Luis Oliveira (Sao Laurenco, Brazil) won a close 8-6 match but the Nos. 2 and 3 doubles squads won their bouts by identical 8-2 scores. The No. 2 team featured junior Jakub Szymanski (Bethany College/Poznan, Poland) and junior Jake Quigley (Joliet Catholic Academy/Joliet, IL) and the No. 3 team consisted of junior Erick Dobrzynski (Moraine Valley CC/Justice, IL) and freshman Nikola Milenkovic (Belgrade, Serbia).
Szymanski, Surges, Oliveira and Quigley all won their singles matches, with Oliveira (6-3, 6-1) and Quigley (6-0, 6-4) beating both of their foes in straight sets. Szymanksi battled an upset stomach but still managed to win in three sets at No. 1. Dobrzynski and Milenkovic each lost three-set matches at No. 5 and 6, respectively.
The victory pushes USF's overall mark to 14-7. The Saints conclude the regular season on Sunday with a noon match against Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology (Ind.) at the Challenge Fitness courts in Lockport. USF will then prepare for the NAIA regional tournament the following weekend at Olivet Nazarene University.
