DES MOINES, Iowa - Grand View University (iowa) spoiled the season opener for University of St. Francis by handing the Saints a 5-0 loss in a nonconference men's soccer match Saturday evening.
Grand View got on the board with a pair of goals slightly past the midway point of the first half and took that 2-0 advantage into halftime. The Vikings (1-0) then put the contest away with three more goals in the final 25 minutes of play.
Grand View outshot the Saints, 23-11, and had 14 shots on goal compared to just four for USF.
Sophomore midfielder Luke Zeiler (Lockport H.S./Homer Glen, IL) and sophomore forward Victor Trujillo (De La Salle Institute/Chicago, IL) each had a pair of shots on goal for St. Francis.
The Saints (0-1) play a pair of home exhibition matches next week against Taylor (Ind.) and Augustana. The Taylor match is scheduled for 4 p.m. Monday and the Augustana exhibition is slated for 7 p.m. Saturday with both being played at Joliet Memorial Stadium.
