DECATUR, Ill. --- University of St. Francis opened its 2010-11 women's tennis season at the Dorothy McClure Tournament at Millikin University on Saturday.

The format called for singles play and featured teams from Rend Lake Community College, Augustana College, Concordia University (IL) and host Millikin, in addition to the Saints.

USF played singles bouts against Rend Lake, Augustana and Concordia but played just a pair of doubles matches vs. Millikin after the coaches agreed to make a slight change to the format.

The Saints won all six singles matches against Concordia and took five of the six versus Rend Lake. Augustana swept all six matches, plus a pair of exhibitions, from the Saints. USF easily won both doubles bouts with Millikin.

Four of USF's players went 2-1 on the day in singles play and the other notched a 1-2 record. The matches against Rend Lake, though, will not count on the Saints' individual records since Rend Lake is just a two-year institution.

The four players who went 2-1 included freshman Princess Clemente (Andrew H.S./Tinley Park, IL), freshman Anne-Christine Tompkins (Lincoln-Way Central H.S./New Lenox, IL), junior Agnes Belza (Nazareth Academy/Chicago, IL) and senior Barb Koziol (Reavis H.S./Burbank, IL). Junior Danielle Emola (Lincoln-Way East H.S./Frankfort, IL) and senior Emily Zajda (Joliet Catholic Academy/Plainfield, IL) each posted a 1-1 mark, senior Corinne Lutz (Minooka H.S./Minooka, IL) was 1-2 and junior Mary Betzwiser (Blackburn College/Plainfield, IL) finished 0-1.

The doubles teams of Clemente and Tompkins and Emola and Lutz each won by 8-0 scores in their matches with Millikin.

The Saints play their first dual match of the fall on Wednesday, Sept. 1, when they travel to Lisle to face NCAA Division III Benedictine University.
