
CHICAGO --- University of St. Francis opened Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play with a straight-set 25-11, 25-18, 26-24 victory over Robert Morris University Tuesday night at the Joseph Gentile Center on the campus of Loyola University.
St. Francis (6-4, 1-0) cruised inthe opening game, where it set the tone for the night with all four of its aces, including three from senior defensive specialist Karen Gruber (Bradley-Bourbonnais H.S./Bourbonnais, IL).
No fewer than four Saints totaled at least seven kills topped by freshman Jazzmyne Robbins (La Salle-Peru H.S./Peru, IL) with 10. Sophomores Sarah Ahline (Lemont H.S./Lemont, IL) and Kristee Conrad (Stagg H.S./Hickory Hills, IL) each collected eight kills in just two games, while junior Kyrsten Becker (Rolling Meadows H.S./Arlington Heights, IL) chipped in with seven in the three games.
Freshman Ashley Richards (Wilmington H.S./Wilmington, IL) set things up with her 35 assists.
Senior libero Courtney Ambrosch (Joliet Township H.S./Joliet, IL) shined on defense withher 18 digs and 15 serve receptions, both of which were team highs. Freshman right-side attacker Erin McNeil (Plymouth H.S./Plymouth, IN) came off the bench in Game 3 to contribute two of USF's three solo blocks.
The Fighting Saints head right back to the court Wednesday night facing Lewis University in Romeoville at 7 p.m.
