
JOLIET, Ill. - University of St. Francis pushed its season-opening winning streak to nine matches and opened Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference volleyball play with a victory as the Saints swept past Calumet College of St. Joseph (IN), 25-11, 25-6, 25-7, at the Rec Center Tuesday night.
The Saints (9-0, 1-0) were never threatened in the match as injuries limited Calumet (0-7, 0-1) to just six players and no available substitutes.
Sophomore outside hitter Jazzmyne Robbins (La Salle-Peru H.S./Peru, IL) led the USF offensive attack with 12 kills and no errors in 17 hitting attempts. Senior outside hitter Kyrsten Becker (Rolling Meadows H.S./Arlington Heights, IL) was right behind Robbins with 8 kills and no errors on just 11 attempts. Senior setter Kelsey Polte (Hall H.S./Spring Valley, IL) ran the offense with 22 assists.
Defensively, the Saints were paced by freshman libero Breanne Shaw (Joliet Township H.S./Joliet, IL) who collected a team-high 12 digs and was perfect on 10 serve reception attempts. Four different players - junior right side attacker Sarah Ahline (Lemont H.S./Lemont, IL), sophomore middle blocker Erin McNeil (Plymouth H.S./Plymouth, IN), senior middle blocker Lauren Hoffman (Plainfield South H.S./Plainfield, IL) and Robbins - had two blocks each.
USF travels to Lamoni, Iowa, this Friday and Saturday to play in the Graceland University Pizza Shack Invitational.
