Juan Santoliva had USF's only save as the Saints shut out Concordia (MI) 2-0.

JOLIET - Sophomore goalkeeper Mike Moberg (Lyons Township H.S./Western Springs, IL) and junior goalie Juan Santoliva (Bradley-Bourbonnais H.S./Bourbonnais, IL) combined for a shutout as University of St. Francis opened play in its own USF Men's Soccer Classic with a 2-0 victory over Concordia University (MI) Friday night at Joliet Memorial Stadium.

Moberg played the first half and Santoliva the second as the Saints' defense allowed Concordia (0-2) just one shot on goal in the entire game. That shot came in the second half and Santoliva made a nice save with his hand reaching up and deflecting the shot over the crossbar.

The Saints (2-3) got the only goals of the game in the first half, scoring a pair just eight-and-one-half minutes apart late in the opening period.

Sophomore forward Victor Trujillo (De La Salle Institute/Chicago, IL) notched the first goal in the 32nd minute off a feed from freshman forward Luis Morales (Keith Country Day School/Rockford, IL). USF pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 40th minute when freshman midfielder Diego Herrera (Bloom H.S./Chicago Heights, IL) found the net after a pass from freshman midfielder Ulises Ornelas (Joliet Township H.S./Joliet, IL) and a deflection from junior defender Stephen Michaels (Minooka H.S./Channahon, IL).

The Saints finished the game with a total of 20 shots, with 10 being on goal. That number was far more than the 5 total shots managed by Concordia and the single shot on goal by the visitors. Trujillo led the team with 5 total shots and shared the club lead with Morales with a pair of shots on goal.

The Saints, winners of two in a row at home, play their second game of the tourney on Saturday night when they face NAIA No. 5-ranked Notre Dame College (OH). That game will be the second of two matches played on Saturday with both being contested at Lemont High School's soccer complex on 131st Street and Bell Road in Lemont. Concordia plays Benedictine University-Springfield in the first contest at 5 p.m., followed by the USF-Notre Dame (OH) matchup at 7 p.m.

Notre Dame and Benedictine-Springfield will conclude the Fall Classic with a Sunday morning match at 11 a.m. back at Joliet Memorial Stadium.
