PARK FOREST, Ill. --- University of St. Francis' men's tennis team made the coaching debut of Cole Twitchell a complete success as the Saints opened up the 2010-2011 campaign with a decisive 8-1 victory over Bethel College (IN) at the Park Forest Tennis Club on Saturday.
No fewer than five Saints posted a pair of victories on the day, including freshman Mark Zubov (St. Petersburg H.S./St. Petersburg, Russia), who was also making his debut at the college level. Zubov combined with senior Jakub Szymanski (Bethany College, KS/Poznan, Poland) for an easy 8-0 victory at No. 2 doubles before notching a 6-4, 6-2 win in the No. 3 singles slot.
Szymanski earned his other victory in the top spot in singles play, 6-4, 6-4.
Senior Jacob Quigley (Joliet Catholic Academy/Joliet, IL) and sophomore Andres Stecher (Pestalozzi H.S./Buenos Aires, Argentina) also notched a pair of wins each, first combining for an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles before gaining respective 6-0, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-0 decisions at Nos. 2 and 4 singles.
Senior Erick Dobrzynski (Moraine Valley Community College/Justice, IL) posted the final two victories, an 8-4 win at No. 3 doubles with junior Eddie Semik (Marian Catholic H.S./Park Forest, IL) and a 6-1, 6-2 nod at No. 5 singles.
USF wraps up its abbreviated fall season this coming weekend when it competes in the ITA Regionals down in St. Louis Friday through Sunday (Sept. 24-26).
