
JOLIET, Ill. - No. 10-ranked McKendree scored a pair of goals in the first five mintues of the game and jumped to a 5-1 halftime lead on its way to a 6-1 win over University of St. Francis Saturday afternoon on the first day of the St. Francis men's soccer Fall Classic at the Galowich YMCA Field.
Missouri Valley defeated Mount Mercy (IA), 3-1, in the second game of the tourney.
USF (1-2-1) scored its only goal of the game midway through the opening half to cut the lead to 2-1 but it only took McKendree (6-0-1)another minute to score again and regain the two-goal edge. USF's goal came on an unassisted shot by freshman midfielder Victor Trujillo (De La Salle Institute/Chicago, IL).
McKendree outshot USF, 18-4, and only allowed a single USF shot on goal in the second half. Trujillo led the Saints with 3 shots on goal and 5 total shot attempts on the game.
USF plays Missouri Valley at 10 a.m. Sunday with Mount Mercy and McKendree completing the Classic schedule at noon.
