
LOCKPORT, Ill. --- University of St. Francis saw its record dip to 2-4 after neighboring rival Lewis University handed the Fighting Saints a 7-2 defeat Wednesday afternoon at the Challenge Fitness Tennis Courts.
Lewis (1-0) swept through doubles play with 8-4 and a pair of 8-2 victories to take the early advantage.
The Flyers also gained a win at No. 1 singles before USF got itself into the victory column when senior Corinne Lutz (Minooka H.S./Minooka, IL) claimed a No. 2 singles nod. Lutz was leading 4-2 in the first set when Lewis' Bayley Brown was forced to retire.
The Saints' other win came in the No. 4 singles slot when junior Agnieszka Belza (Nazareth Academy/Chicago, IL) came from behind to post a 4-6, 6-2, 11-9 victory.
Head coach Ralph Kwilosz's club journeys into Iowa this weekend to square off against St. Ambrose University (IA) on Saturday at 11 a.m.
