SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Freshman Madeline Karlson (New Lenox, Ill./ Lincoln-Way Central) and junior Alex Catalano (Plainfield, Ill./ Plainfield South) posted top-10 individual finishes as the University of St. Francis women's golf team placed fifth at the 10-team Bethel College Pilot Spring Invitational Friday and Saturday at Blackthorn Golf Club.
Karlson fired rounds of 84 and 82 to finish the tournament tied for seventh place (166), two slots ahead of Catalano, who shot 82 and 85 (167). Saint Xavier University's Taylor Thompson was the tournament medalist with rounds of 75 and 81 (156).
Sophomore Kayla Garritson (Lockport, Ill./ Lockport) carded an 85 on Friday and a 91 on Saturday, while sophomore Sarah Maddox (Braidwood, Ill./ Reed-Custer) rounded out the USF scorecard with rounds of 91 and 89.
USF finished the 36-hole event with a team score of 689. Host Bethel topped the 10-team field at 656, 15 strokes ahead of runner-up Saint Xavier.
The Saints return to action Apr. 21-22 at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Spring Fling.
