JOLIET, Ill. – For the second time in five days, junior Morghan Dieringer (New Lenox, Ill./ Lincoln-Way West) and sophomore Taylor Barsz (Lockport, Ill./ Lockport) threw back-to-back shutouts as No. 15-ranked University of St. Francis swept a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference softball doubleheader with a pair of 8-0 wins over Roosevelt University Saturday at Harlow Lockwood Field.

Winning by shutout for the 11th and 12th times this year, the Saints raised their overall record to 30-4 and improved to 14-2 in CCAC play. Roosevelt dropped to 10-22, 3-15.

Game 1 – USF 8, Roosevelt 0

En route to her fifth shutout of the season, Dieringer (14-3) allowed just one hit – a one-out single in the top of the third inning – in the five-inning affair. Of the 19 batters she faced, 13 went down via strikeouts.

Taking advantage of eight walks, a hit batsman and an error, USF needed only six hits to plate its eight runs. Freshman right fielder Paige Egan (Mount Greenwood, Ill./ Marist) went 2-for-2 with a pair of runs scored, while junior designated player Ally Balandis (Burbank, Ill./ Reavis) and junior center fielder Anna Wetherell (Rock Island, Ill./ Alleman Catholic) each scored twice. Balandis was 1-for-2 with two walks; Wetherell also drew a pair of bases on balls.

Game 2 – USF 8, Roosevelt 0

Now 10-0 on the year, Barsz scattered five hits in six innings to log her fourth shutout of the year in the nightcap. She collected five strikeouts without issuing a walk.

Junior second baseman Brooke Karraker (Kankakee, Ill./ Herscher) and sophomore left fielder Hailey Lenth (Colona, Ill./ East Moline) each homered. Karraker belted her seventh home run of the season in the opening frame, before Lenth hit the first of her career two innings later.

Junior designated player Jensen Tchorzynski (Hillman, Mich./ Hillman) drove in three runs in the game with a pair of hits in three at-bats. Karraker, Lenth and freshman first baseman Kayla Garcia (Chicago, Ill./ Lane Tech) also had two hits apiece.

USF returns to action on the road Wednesday afternoon when it travels to Palos Heights to take on Trinity Christian College at 3 p.m.
