DEERFIELD, Ill. – The University of St. Francis baseball team dropped a pair of one-run games to host Trinity International University in Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference play Tuesday afternoon, falling 1-0 and 6-5.

With the two losses – its first conference doubleheader loss of the year – USF fell to 29-16 overall and 14-5 in CCAC play. Trinity International improved to 14-23, 5-14 as it extended its winning streak to three games.

Game 1 – Trinity International 1, USF 0

Junior Kevin Mampe (New Lenox, Ill./ Lincoln-Way Central) limited the Trojans to just one hit in six innings, but that hit – a two-out, first-inning single – produced the game's lone run as TIU took game one 1-0.

After walking two of the first three batters, Mampe retired the next hitter before Matt Pierson singled to plate the only run of the contest. Mampe (4-4) then set down 16 of the next 17 batters; the only TIU hitter to reach after that point did so as the result of the USF error.

TIU hurler Mitchell Apple went the distance to post the shutout. Senior third baseman Nick Fleischauer (Shorewood, Ill./ Minooka) collected two of the Saints' six hits.

Game 2 – Trinity International 6, USF 5

USF led 4-0 after two innings, but the Trojans used a five-run fifth inning to complete the twinbill sweep.

A Fleischauer RBI double sparked a three-run USF outburst in the opening frame. Sophomore first baseman Anthony Faron (New Lenox, Ill./ St. Rita) followed Fleischauer with another run-scoring double before coming around to score on freshman designated hitter Travis Schoonover's (Braidwood, Ill./ Reed-Custer) base hit. An RBI single off the bat of Mampe made it 4-0 USF after two innings.

TIU scored five times in the bottom of the fifth to take a 6-4 lead. USF rallied in the top of the ninth, but fell short. A Mampe sacrifice fly – his second RBI of the game – made it 6-5, but the Saints left the potential tying run on first base.

Fleischauer and junior left fielder Pat Michalak (New Lenox, Ill./ Lincoln-Way Central) each had three hits. The second of USF's three pitchers, senior Austin Mendell (Kankakee, Ill./ Herscher), took the loss after allowing two runs in two-thirds of an inning.

USF opens a three-game CCAC weekend series against Olivet Nazarene University Friday afternoon in Bourbonnais.
