ELGIN, Ill. --- St. Ambrose University scored early and often, leaving the Saints trailing 5-0 after three innings and 10-1 after five in an eventual 11-4 setback in a winner's bracket game at the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament on Saturday morning.
Mike Miller and Tommy Goodale did the majority of the damage with each player driving in four runs. Miller, who went 4-for-5, fell a triple short of hitting for the cycle, while Goodale deposited a three-run home run in a five-run fifth inning to put the game out of reach.
Juniors Kevin Mampe (New Lenox, Ill./ Lincoln-Way Central) and Pat Michalak (New Lenox, Ill./ Lincoln-Way Central) and freshman Travis Schoonover (Braidwood, Ill./ Reed-Custer) all had a pair of hits and drove in a run for the Saints. Mampe's RBI came on his solo home run to close out the scoring in the ninth inning.
Saint starter Michael Quiram (Shorewood/ Joliet Catholic)(5-6) lasted only two innings in suffering the loss.
The Saints (31-25) need a pair of wins Monday to remain alive in the tournament, starting with a 1:30 p.m. matchup against an opponent to be determined.
