JOLIET, Ill. --- Trinity Christian College's Mark Waller sent University of St. Francis to its fifth one-goal loss of the season when his 20-yard open shot found the back of the net with 18:01 remaining to give the Trolls a 1-0 Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference victory Tuesday night at Joliet Memorial Stadium.
The shot was one of only three on goal for the game for Trinity Christian (6-6, 3-2) and the only one after the intermission. It also came just 3:42 after Waller was reinserted into the Trojan lineup.
USF (3-11, 1-5) had triple the scoring opportunities - nine total shots on goal - but failed to convert five times in the first half and another four times in the closing 45 minutes. Sophomore forward Victor Trujillo (De La Salle Institute/Chicago, IL) accounted for one-third of those attempts with his three shots on goal. Sophomore Matt Nieciunski (Stagg H.S./Palos Hills, IL) registered two of the other six attempts.
The loss was the third in a row for the Saints who have failed to score during the winless streak. It also marked the sixth time this season USF was shutout.
St. Francis will look to rebound on Friday when it hosts Calumet College of St. Joseph (IN) at 1 p.m.
