CHARLESTON, Ill. – The USF men's soccer team battled with NCAA Division I foe Eastern Illinois throughout Sunday's matchup, but dropped a 1-0 decision.

The teams played a defensive-minded first half that included only six total shots and two shots on goal. Eastern Illinois (2-0-4) took four of the attempts, while the Saints (2-2-1) and Panthers split the two on target.

Eastern Illinois scored the game-winning goal in the 83rd minute. Zach Medawattage finished a scoring opportunity off a corner kick from Jonathan Huerta.

The Panthers outshot the Saints 10-4, but held just a 3-2 advantage in shots on goal. Both goalkeepers, USF's Carlos Ferrer Coto (La Fresnada, Spain/Colegio San Ignacio) and EIU's Mike Novotny made two saves.

The Saints travel to Goshen College next Saturday, September 16 for a 6:00 p.m. start.
