VALPARAISO, Ind. - Sophomore outside hitter Jazzmyne Robbins (La Salle-Peru H.S./Peru, IL) led University of St. Francis with 13 kills and senior middle blocker Lauren Hoffman (Plainfield South H.S./Plainfield, IL) added 10 to lead the Saints to a three-game sweep of Purdue North Central in a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference volleyball match Tuesday night.
The Saints (25-10, 8-1) won their third straight match and their seventh in their last nine to move within a half game of a first-place tie in the CCAC behind Trinity Christian College (9-1) and Olivet Nazarene University (9-1).
USF broke open a tight first set to win 25-19 and then rallied from a 23-21 deficit to score the final four points and win game two by a 25-23 score. The Saints jumped out to a 6-0 lead and won the third game in relatively easy fashion at 25-15 over the Panthers (19-13, 2-8).
Robbins and Hoffman got offensive support from junior right-side attacker Sarah Ahline (Lemont H.S./Lemont, IL) who finished the night with 9 kills and no hitting errors in 15 total attempts. Senior outside hitter Kyrsten Becker (Rolling Meadows H.S./Arlington Heights, IL) added 8 kills to the offensive mix.
Becker led the Saints defensively with 23 digs and 17 serve receptions. Freshman libero Breanne Shaw (Joliet Township H.S./Joliet, IL) added 12 digs and 16 receptions. Hoffman led the team with 3 total blocks.
The Saints return home for their final two regular season matches, both CCAC tilts. The Saints play host to Illinois Tech at the Recreation Center on Friday night at 7 p.m. They finish the regular season at home against Olivet Nazarene next Tuesday at 7 p.m. A pair of wins will assure the Saints of no worse than a tie for the league's regular season championship and one of the top two seeds in the upcoming CCAC tournament.
