JOLIET - Sophomore Luke Zeiler (Lockport H.S./Homer Glen, IL) and freshman Christian Ontiveros (Bolingbrook H.S./Bolingbrook, IL) each scored goals to lead University of St. Francis' men's soccer team to a 2-0 win over Trinity International University Monday night at Joliet Memorial Stadium.
The win earned USF (5-13, 3-7) its first berth in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference postseason tournament since the 2004 season.
Zeiler scored the Saints' first goal in the 16th minute of the game. He scored from 20 feet in front of the net off a pass from sophomore midfielder Willie Gutierrez (Thornwood H.S./South Holland, IL). Ontiveros finally gave the Saints a little breathing room with his unassisted goal in the final six minutes of the contest.
USF outshot TIU, 18-8, and had 6 shots on goal compared to just 4 for the Trojans. Ontiveros was the lone Saint with more than one shot on goal as he finished with two.
Junior goalkeeper Juan Santoliva (Bradley-Bourbonnais H.S./Bourbonnais, IL) had 4 saves and recorded his first shutout of the season.
The Saints, who will be seeded seventh in the seven-team CCAC tournament field, will not know their first-round opponent until sometime Tuesday night. Third-place Saint Xavier plays the final CCAC match of the regular season at league champion Illinois Tech on Wednesday at 7 p.m. If SXU defeats Tech, the Cougars will move into second place and will host the Saints on Saturday. If SXU ties or loses at Illinois Tech, Olivet Nazarene will remain in second place and will host USF in the opening round on Saturday. Starting times will be announced once the pairings are finalized on Wednesday.
