JOLIET, Ill. - Freshman Amber Zukowski (Andrew H.S./Tinley Park, IL) scored on a direct kick from 45 yards out in the 37th minute to tie the score but Grace College notched the only goal of the second half as the visiting Lancers topped University of St. Francis, 2-1, Wednesday afternoon in a nonconference women's soccer match at the Galowich YMCA Field.
The Saints (0-6) outshot Grace (7-0) by a 7-6 margin but Zukowski's goal was the only time USF dented the scoreboard. USF senior goalkeeper Ashley Kekelik (T.F. South H.S./Lansing, IL) turned away four Grace shots on goal but surrendered one in each half.
USF's goal was just the second scored in seven games against the Lancers in the 2009 season.
Zukowski and sophomore forward Erin Voss (Nazareth Academy/Elmhurst, IL) each recorded two shots on goal for USF with senior midfielder Caitlin Byrnes (Plainfield South H.S./Plainfield, IL), sophomore defender Regina Melone (Lockport H.S./Orland Park, IL) and freshman midfielder Morgan Rowe (Ottawa H.S./Marseilles, IL) each getting one shot on goal.
